XIAO KE X ZI HAN
WE APOLOGISE TO INFORM YOU
This site-specific performance work aims to build a dialogue between our individual action and social issues to illustrate artists’ attitude and concern.
The name “We apologize to inform you” is used to highlight potential ‘violence’ in the daily life.
We are used to meeting in familiar situations. We are used to accepting decided results – such as a flight delayed in a public airport.
However in accepting this common situation (such as a flight delay), we also question individual human rights issues and the common realities we are faced with in China (and in other countries). Political power tries to reeducate people to accept their purpose.
Xiao Ke and Zi Han give up the formal theater stage but move into public space, which reflects their situation where they do their own art in Shanghai China. Live performance connects with daily life; they try to reduce professional technical decoration in their performance but build up a strong image that is magnified from realistic life.
“We apologize to inform you” has launched 3 versions in China, Japan and Germany from 2013 to 2015, In Brisbane it is a special version particularly for APAM 2018.
Xiao Ke, Performance artist. She has been pioneering the road for performance art as physical art and contemporary social theater about the reality in today’s China, and the artistic forms are various, no longer limited within the theater. She won ZKB Award in Zurich Theater Spektakel in 2006.
Zi Han, Performance / Audiovisual artist. He keeps moving forward engaging in comprehensive visual art and live music for theater performance. His works includes photography, video, contemporary art and sound.
The collaborative works between Xiao Ke and Zi Han involve photography, video, live art and installation that focus on personal body exploring the extreme of expression under the public context in China. By restoring the artists’ ideas back into life, their collaboration is to fulfill the life process of the idea itself that what comes from life vanishes into life. Their works have been invited and shown in different art festivals and different countries such as Holland, Germany, UK, Italy, Austria, France, Norway, Singapore, Japan, Switzerland, Ireland, and Latvia etc.
